Privacy Policy — Nature Diary

Nature Diary ("the app") helps you identify plants, animals and objects you find near you and keep a personal nature diary. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and your rights.

Who is responsible

What we collect

• Account: your email address, to create your account and sign you in.
• Photos: the pictures you take or upload to identify and save in your diary.
• Location: where a finding was made — taken from the photo's metadata (EXIF) or your device's GPS at the moment — so it can appear on your map and sort your diary by proximity. You can deny location access; the app still works without it.
• Your content: the notes and corrections you add to each finding.

How we use it

• To provide your personal diary (store, list, map and search your findings).
• To identify what's in your photos and assess plant health, your photo is sent for analysis to our AI providers (see below). Photos are processed to return a result; they are not used to train models.
• We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data.

Service providers

• Supabase — hosts your account, database and photos (EU region). Privacy.
• Anthropic (Claude) — analyses your photo to identify the subject and assess plant health. Privacy.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is kept until you delete it. You can delete individual findings at any time, and you can delete your entire account from inside the app (Account → Delete my account). Deleting your account permanently removes your account, all your findings and all your photos.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and each user can only access their own data, enforced at the database level (row-level security).

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date will change accordingly.
